Google Chrome’s New AI Feature Fights Tech Support Scams in Real-Time
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Google is enhancing Chrome’s security with the integration of Gemini Nano, its on-device AI model, in version 137. This update aims to detect and block tech support scams in real-time, providing users with immediate protection against deceptive websites.

Tech support scams often involve fake pop-ups or full-screen warnings that trick users into believing their computer has issues, prompting them to call fraudulent helplines. Gemini Nano analyzes web pages locally on the user’s device to identify such malicious behaviors. If a threat is detected, Chrome sends the findings to Google’s Safe Browsing service for further analysis. Upon confirmation, Chrome displays a warning to alert the user.

This AI-powered protection is available to users who enable Enhanced Protection in Chrome’s Safe Browsing settings.Google plans to expand this feature to detect other types of scams and extend its availability to Android devices later this year.

For more information on how to enable Enhanced Protection and stay safe online, visit Google’s official blog post.
