Vercel, the company behind the Next.js framework, has introduced “v0-1.0-md,” an AI model optimized for front-end and full-stack web development. Currently in beta, the model is accessible via API and supports both text and image prompts.
It integrates with tools compatible with OpenAI’s API format, such as Cursor and Codex. The model is available to users on Vercel’s V0 Premium ($20/month) and Team ($30/user/month) plans, with usage-based billing enabled.
Designed to assist developers, the model can “auto-fix” common coding issues and handle inputs up to 128,000 tokens. Its release aligns with a growing trend of AI adoption in programming; a Stack Overflow survey indicated that 82% of developers use AI tools for coding. Additionally, a quarter of startups in Y Combinator’s W25 batch reportedly have 95% of their codebases generated by AI.
Vercel’s initiative joins other companies like JetBrains and Mistral in developing AI models focused on programming tasks. While these tools offer promising efficiencies, experts caution that AI-generated code can introduce security vulnerabilities and logical errors.
